The D2 Visa for Portugal

The D2 Visa for Portugal, also known as the “Entrepreneur Visa” or “Business Visa,” is designed for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who wish to start a business, invest in a business, or become self-employed in Portugal. This visa offers a pathway to residency in Portugal for those who can demonstrate the potential to contribute to the country’s economy.

Requirements for the D2 Visa:

  1. Business Plan:
    • Applicants must submit a detailed business plan outlining the nature of the business, market research, financial projections, and the potential economic impact on Portugal. The business should be viable and have the potential to create jobs or contribute to economic development.
  2. Proof of Financial Means:
    • Applicants need to demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their business during their stay in Portugal. This includes both personal funds and capital investment in the business. The specific amount required can vary depending on the nature of the business and the applicant’s circumstances.
  3. Proof of Business Activity:
    • Evidence that the business has already been established in Portugal or is in the process of being set up. This could include proof of company registration, contracts, or other documentation showing that the business is operational or ready to launch.
  4. Clean Criminal Record:
    • Applicants must provide a police clearance certificate from their country of residence to show a clean criminal record.
  5. Accommodation in Portugal:
    • Proof of accommodation in Portugal, which can be a rental agreement or property ownership.
  6. Health Insurance:
    • Applicants must have private health insurance that provides coverage in Portugal until they are eligible for the public healthcare system.
  7. Portuguese Bank Account:
    • Opening a Portuguese bank account is often required to demonstrate the financial capacity to support the business and living expenses.

Benefits of the D2 Visa:

  • Residency Rights: Allows the holder to live in Portugal and travel freely within the Schengen Area.
  • Path to Citizenship: After five years of legal residency, holders can apply for permanent residency or Portuguese citizenship.
  • Family Reunification: The D2 Visa allows for the reunification of family members, such as a spouse and children, under the same residency status.
  • Access to Healthcare and Education: Residents have access to Portugal’s public healthcare system and public education for their children.
  • Business Growth: Portugal offers a favorable environment for business growth, including access to the European market, a skilled workforce, and various business incentives.

The D2 Visa is ideal for entrepreneurs, investors, freelancers, and independent professionals who are looking to establish a business in Portugal and benefit from the country’s thriving economy and high quality of life.
